Taking on the Tories – join NUS Liberation Officers fighting the government’s reactionary agenda
TAKING ON THE TORIES’ REACTIONARY AGENDA
Students for Peace, Equality & Education for all
Saturday 22 October from 10am, University of London Union
The NUS Black Students’ and LGBT Officers are urging students to join this year’s Progressive Students Conference to discuss how we can fight back against the Tories’ assault on students.

Vicki Baars (NUS LGBT Officer) and Kanja Sesay (NUS Black Students’ Officer) will be speaking alongside many other student leaders and campaigners including Jeremy Corbyn MP, Josie Long (comedian & anti-cuts activist), Kate Hudson (CND), Owen Jones (author of ‘Chavs’) and Aaron Kiely (NUS NEC).

Vicki Baars, NUS LGBT Officer (Women’s Place) said:
“The Tories are leading an unprecedented attack on students and ordinary people. Cuts to education, healthcare and all public services will see women, LGBT communities, Black people, disabled people, the poorest and the most vulnerable sections of our society suffer the most, whilst at the same time the rich will get richer.
These disgusting policies need to be opposed and defeated. Students have already shown that we have a vital role to play in resisting the Tories’ attacks. The Progressive Students Conference will be a key opportunity to plan the next steps in our campaigns to defend education and fight for liberation and I hope you will join us on Saturday 22 October.”
Kanja Sesay, NUS Black Students’ Officer said:
“Students and young people are being hit hard by the Tories’ reactionary agenda.
Millions of young people are having their futures taken away from them by a government of millionaires who are cutting education, jobs and the public services we all rely on.
Yet as the cuts bite, the Tories are using the classic weapon of mass distraction: racist scapegoating of immigrants, Black people, Muslims and asylum seekers. They want to blame these groups for a crisis caused by the bankers.
All students opposed to this reactionary agenda must unite and commit to build a progressive, fighting student movement against cuts, fees, racism, bigotry and war. Join us at the Progressive Students conference on 22 October to discuss the next steps for the student movement.”
